Nick Castellanos is one of the more intriguing active MLB players. The Philadelphia Phillies outfielder has produced a solid major league career despite noticeable flaws in his game. He is also candid and outspoken when addressing his fans and critics.
"Nick Castellanos: “…my style of hitting, which is always like glorified batting practice … I don’t really have an approach, I look for the baseball and hit it as hard as I can…” @PhilliesNation" - @TimKellySports
His personality was on full display following the Philadelphia Phillies 5-0 victory over Houston on Tuesday night. Castellanos helped secure the series sweep with his 18th home run of the year. After the game, the veteran explained how he had no plan during his at-bats and simply attacked the ball as he saw it.

His free-swinging approach and questionable outfield glove suggest that Castellanos might struggle to find playing time in the majors. However, as MLB analyst Chris Rose pointed out on an episode of Baseball Today, despite his flaws (0.0 WAR this season), the Phillies slugger will end up with a tremendous career.
"That factors in his defense, which we know is not top of the line, he's not Mookie Betts out there in right field, but he's going to have a good, solid MLB career [26:01]," Chris Rose said in the episode.
Rose also noted that Castellanos should finish his MLB career with over 300 home runs (he has 228 right now). This number might sound surprising, given that the outfielder's batting approach goes against the processes of many of the game's all-time superstars, such as Derek Jeter.
Nick Castellanos and the Philadelphia Phillies are one of the favorites to win the World Series this year
Despite Castellanos' flaws, he is an important part of the Philadelphia Phillies' impressive 2024 campaign. Entering Wednesday, the Phils find themselves atop the NL East with a 78-54 record and are considered one of the favorites to win the World Series.
According to the sports betting website FanDuel, the Phillies have the best odds to win the World Series at +480, behind only the Los Angeles Dodgers, who sit at +350 to bring home the title.
