"Not second guessing" - Bryan Woo credits trusting catcher Cal Raleigh's instructions for shutout performance against the Phillies

After his team's win against the Philadelphia Phillies, Bryan Woo of the Seattle Mariners talked about how big of a role catcher Cal Raleigh played in his pitching. The Mariners were 10-2 winners at T-Mobile Park on Friday night, with Woo pitching seven scoreless innings, allowing just five hits and striking out six.

Friday's outing continues a strong season on the mound for Woo, who has a 5-1 win/loss record with a 2.08 ERA and 0.87 WHIP, along with 43 strikeouts.

Talking to Fanatics View about Friday's events, the 24-year-old described the feeling of walking off the mound to a standing ovation.

"[0:26] Finishing strong has definitely been not something I've been particularly great at this year, so to be able to finish the job and do that was big, something I'm definitely going to look back on," Woo said.

He also discussed mixing up the pitches in his arsenal and how Cal Raleigh helped him.

"[2:18] It's really about building confidence with it, trusting that I've continued to put the work in with them [alternative pitches]. It's just about focusing on what I've been working on throughout the week and then just trusting them when I go out there, not trying to do too much. Whatever Cal puts down I'm gonna do, not second-guessing that."

When asked about whether aggressive batters alter his plans on the mound, Woo responded,

"Not really, if you put a good swing on a ball first pitch and get a hit, good for you. I'm not going to change what I'm trying to do, I'm still going to stay aggressive. Not trying to change too much from what my strength is."

Mariners' offense comes into its own in blowout win against the Phillies

In the first of a nine-game homestand, the Seattle Mariners offense dominated against the Philadelphia Phillies. The win brought their record to 58-53, keeping them level with the Houston Astros in what is proving to be an exciting battle for the American League West crown.

The show was well and truly underway from the very first pitch, as Victor Robles smashed a solo home run to left field. However, the real firecrackers came in the following inning, as Luke Raley and Justin Turner hit a three-run homer and a grand slam, respectively, which increased the Mariners' lead to eight.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Mitch Haninger finished off proceedings with a two-run homer to bring in the final runs of the night for the home team. The 10 runs scored on Friday were the most for the Mariners at T-Mobile Park this season.
