Francisco Lindor and the New York Mets are coming off a great 2024 MLB season. While things looked bleak at various points in the year, they made the postseason and had an exciting run.
They made it to the NLCS but lost their momentum against the LA Dodgers. They lost the series 4-2 which put an end to their run and their season.
Now, the focus is on the offseason and what the team needs to add to improve in 2025. Connor Rogers and Joe DeMayo from "The Mets Pod" believe the club must target Juan Soto this winter.
"This is not the one that you sit out and let the Yankees have their guy back. This is the one where you make your statement as the Mets. This is the statement free agent move," said DeMayo.
Soto will be the top free agent on the board and could be a player that pushes the Amazins over the hump. He would also be somebody who would greatly help Lindor out.
"[They] have one pillar on their team, and it's Francisco Lindor. And one pillar cannot hold up a house. So, the Mets need multiple pillars. They need certainly one more and that one, the one, is Juan Soto" said DeMayo.
However, that is not the only thing that will be on the mind of the front office personnel. They may have a star leaving this winter that could truly shake some things up.
The addition of Juan Soto could help Francisco Lindor and the Mets if star slugger decides to leave
Juan Soto will be an attractive piece for most teams this winter. He is one of the best hitters in the game and is somebody a team can build around. He is working on a one-year deal with the Yankees and will be a free agent when the season ends.
He is not the only star that will become a free agent this winter. Pete Alonso is another hot bat that will be on the market over the offseason and the Mets need to figure out if they want him back.
Alonso will not be cheap, given what he brings to a team. Spotrac has estimated his upcoming contract to be around $242 million over seven years with an annual average salary of $34.5 million.
