Alex Rodriguez was part of the New York Yankees roster, which won the World Series in 2009. 15 years later, the club entered the World Series to end the drought; however, with a 3-0 series deficit, they are all but one loss away from being another disappointing ending to the season.
Seeing how his franchise is getting folded off in the World Series, A-Rod weighed in during his post-game analysis with the Fox Sports crew along with Derek Jeter and David Ortiz. He didn't mince words while taking a dig at the Yankees' performance against the Dodgers.
"Yeah, at some point, you’ve got to give them credit," A-Rod told presenter Kevin Burkhardt. "But at some point, the hitters have to say, 'Hey, you know what? We drive Mercedes-Benz too. We can step up, make some hits, and get better at-bats.'"
Adding more to the conversation, Alex Rodriguez praised Dodgers starter Walker Buehler, who pitched five scoreless innings.
"Look, Buehler was fantastic today, and he reminds me of guys like Andy Pettitte and Jamie Moyer who, as they got older, lost velocity but became better pitchers," Rodriguez added. "But look, Kevin, the Dodgers flat-out put on a masterclass in these first three games—they've outplayed them offensively, defensively, and in pitching."
Throughout the first three games of this World Series, the Dodgers have easily been the better team on both sides of the ball. The only time the Yankees were in the lead was in Game 1, which they allowed to slip thanks to Freddie Freeman's clutch walk-off grand slam in extra innings.
Yankees on the brink of getting swept in World Series
The New York Yankees have got themselves in a bad spot with them down 3-0 against the Dodgers. Ahead of the series start, many expected this matchup to go till seven games; however, from what it appears, this may very well be done and dusted on Tuesday.
The Yankees get one shot to at least avoid a series sweep and generate momentum from there on. They'll likely have Luis Gill available to pitch tomorrow but don't be surprised if Gerrit Cole also rolls up his sleeves with game on the line. Pitching hasn't been that big an issue for the Yankees as the lackluster form of some top hitters like Aaron Judge (.083 in the World Series) and Juan Soto (.300).
Both went hitless in Game 3 and while Soto has previously hit a home run in Game 2, Judge hasn't been even remotely close to what he was in the regular season. The Yankees captain needs to be on top of his game.
