Former MLB pitcher Trevor Bauer had an emphatic debut season in the Mexican League, as the veteran hurler claimed the championship with the Diablos Rojos del Mexico.
Following the triumph earlier this month, Trevor Bauer's agent Rachel Luba shared insights on the troubles Bauer overcame in his successful stint with the Diablos Rojos.
She wrote:
"Seeing @baueroutage both overcome a terrifying illness and partial paralysis, as well as manage to dominate this season at the most difficult ballpark in the world to pitch in was truly something remarkable. But seeing him fall in love with baseball again after it broke his heart in so many ways—was truly something special."
Trevor Bauer had shared the support he received from the Mexican team after joining as a free agent as MLB teams continued to ignore his attempts of making a return to the major leagues in the offseason.
"Having the support of the Diablos organization, players, teammates and everyone in the organization has been pretty important for me. I kind of rediscovered the love of playing baseball this year."
Trevor Bauer extended initial deal after support from fans and team in Mexico
Trevor Bauer's agent also highlighted the fact that the former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher had initially signed for only five games with the Diablos Rojos.
She believes the love and support from the fans made his stay for the entirety of the season as he signed an extension with the team.
"Trev thought he was coming for just 5 starts, but he ended up staying for the season—and that’s a true testament to the team and the organization as a whole.
"He had no intention of staying past 5 games but yall made him love playing again and love being with each and every one of you at the @diablosrojosmx."
Bauer was one of the standout performers for his team and enjoyed a strong run in the postseason.
He pitched 81.1 innings in his first season with an impressive 2.48 ERA as the Diablos Rojos eased past the Sultanes de Monterrey to claim the championship.
With a strong season in Mexico, MLB teams could give the former Cy Young Winner another chance to prove his credentials despite his controversial past.
