The New York Mets went to unprecedented heights to sign Juan Soto in the offseason, acquiring the Dominican star free agent to an MLB-record $765 million deal over 15 years.

Soto's record-breaking deal caught the eye of the baseball world as it eclipsed Shohei Ohtani's $700 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers signed last offseason.

While the staggering sum for the All-Star slugger is still being debated, the latest graphic by MLB network has stumped baseball fans. The graphic shows Soto's contract value almost matching up to the combined contract value of nine Atlanta Braves players.

The total contract value of the nine players, including former MVP Ronald Acuna Jr., came down to $775.3 million, compared to Soto's $765 million with the Mets.

Fans were surprised by the contract value of the Braves players in comparison to Soto's.

"The Albies and Acuna contract feels wrong lol," wrote a fan.
"Soto definitely not going to live up to that contract," wrote another fan.
"The Mets really paid $800mil for a DH to get walked since no one remotely close to Aaron Judge's level will be batting behind him," mocked a fan.

Several fans lauded the Braves front office for handing long-term extensions to young talents instead of letting them walk into free agency."

"Braves did a really good job locking up their players," remarked a fan.
"Further illustrates the Braves know how to construct a team as good as anyone (without unlimited cash), and that Soto was well overpaid," wrote a fan.
"Talk about managing a payroll.. kudos to the Braves," praised another fan.

Braves make another smart move by acquiring Jurickson Profar

Juan Soto's contract could increase in value if the Mets opt to override his opt-out after five years by increasing his AAV by $4 million for the remaining 10 years, increasing the contract value to $805 million.

Atlanta Braves made another shrewd move in the offseason by signing All-Star outfielder Jurickson Profar last week. The former San Diego Padres outfielder, who had a career year with the Padres in 2024, signed a three-year contract worth $42 million.

Profar, who grew up watching Braves legend Andruw Jones, will be earning $12 million in 2025 and $15 million each in the next two years. The veteran slugger is a crucial addition to the lineup that will be missing superstar Ronald Acuna Jr. in the early part of the season as the former MVP continues his recovery from a torn ACL.
