Atlanta Braves star Ozzie Albies has been making the most of winter. Instead of staying inside huddled up in a blanket, Albies is soaking up the winter weather, showing off his delight at his snowy surroundings.

In a video posted on the Instagram of Ozzie Albies’ wife, Andreia Albies, on Friday, the Braves infielder is soaking in a koi pond, thoroughly basking in the hot-water pool.

Here’s the video, captioned:

"My husband, doing literally everything possible… except staying inside."

Indeed, sitting outside shirtless and in shorts, in the middle of winter, soaking his feet in a koi pond isn’t exactly a common winter activity.

Still, the content has generated plenty of buzz, given Albies’ defiance of the Atlanta cold.

Ozzie Albies’ love for marine life

Ozzie Albies is no stranger to marine life. Surrounding himself with fish and other sea creatures is a major part of his life.

An MLB.com piece from August 2023 chronicled Albies’ love for fish and other marine animals. Albies, a native of Curacao in the Caribbean, grew up surrounded by the ocean. As such, he’s no stranger to life near the water.

According to the piece, the Atlanta Braves second baseman boasts a 10,000-gallon aquarium in his Atlanta home. The aquarium is filled with various kinds of fish such as those seen in the following video posted on Albies’ IG profile in May:

In the video, Albies is wading in his pool with a net, checking on a small shark. However, keeping fish, particularly koi, is nothing new in the Albies family. The habit started with Albies’ grandfather.

MLB.com quoted Albies, stating:

"My grandfather used to keep koi fish back in 2001, 2002 -- when I was a little kid. I always had that in my family. We always loved animals."

It’s a tradition that’s stuck with him to this day. When Albies bought his home in Atlanta, they made sure it came outfitted with a koi pond. The pond contains three tanks holding 550, 300 and 450 gallons.

While Albies hires professionals to supervise his ponds, he’s very hands-on. When he’s not playing in the MLB, Albies enjoys spending time in the water with his fish. It’s a way of staying close to his native Curacao while being some 1,500 miles away.

Albies summed up his experience taking care of his fish, stating:

“It’s relaxing, actually. It’s not a hard thing to do. It’s easy.”

With a few weeks left before training camps start, Ozzie Albies will have more time to spend close to marine life.
