After a career-best showing for the Padres in 2024, pitcher Adrian Morejon has a lot to be proud of this offseason. Recently, the Cuban-born left-hander's girlfriend took to social media to show off her new, yet timeless hairdo.
In a series of stories, Morejon's girlfriend Melany showed off her dazzling hairstyle. Ostensibly based off Gossip Girl character Blair Waldorf, Melany referenced the character by adding the caption 'Blair Waldorf coded." Alongside her haircut, Melany also took the chance to show off her chic outfit that consisted of a mini skirt and sweater.
Although not much is known about Melany's personal life, she has been in a relationship with the San Diego Padres pitcher since at least 2023. Her social media often showcases her support for Morejon, as well as glimpses into her own personal tastes when it comes to food, fashion and lifestyle.
A native of Havana, Cuba, Morejon defected from his homeland in 2015, when he was just 16 years old. The following year, the southpaw was signed as an international free agent by the Padres, inking a huge $11 million signing bonus when he was merely seventeen years old.
After tossing a career-high 34 innings in 2022, Morejon failed to gain consistency in 2023. However, by 2024, the Cubano was becoming the pitcher that the Friars knew he could be.
"Is this the Adrian Morejon year we’ve been waiting for all along… His stuff is nasty" - Padres Nation wrote on X.
This past season, Adrian Morejon went 3-2, pitching to a 2.83 ERA and amassing some 71 strikeouts across 63.2 innings of work. However, in Game 2 of the 2024 NLDS against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Morejon allowed one earned run in 2.1 innings - earning the loss.
Adrian Morejon's injury history overshadows glimpses of brilliance
Although the 25-year-old Morejon showed tremendous poise in 2024, the concern of past injuries continues to weigh on his team. Referencing potentially adding the left-hander to the team's rotation, Darragh McDonald recently wrote for MLB Trade Rumors:
"But despite all the attraction of Morejón jumping into the rotation, there’s also the risk of another injury cropping up. In that scenario, it’s entirely possible that the Padres fall short of upgrading the rotation and also subtract a key lefty from the bullpen mix."
Adrian Morejon's career is certainly on the upswing. However, he will need to provide more proof of his ability before San Diego manager Mike Schildt will want him in the rotation.
