After a 2024 campaign riddled with injuries, Patrick Wisdom has decided to leave MLB. Instead, the California native has decided to join one of the world's most up-and-coming baseball leagues.
On Saturday, it was reported that Wisdom would be inking a deal with the KIA Tigers of South Korea's KBO League. Details regarding remuneration and time commitments have not yet been released, as it is understood those details will come out after a physical examination.

"BREAKING - Former Chicago Cubs slugger [Patrick Wisdom] is heading to the KBO and will be looking to help defend the title of the reigning champs. WELCOME to THE TIGERS, Patrick Wisdom" - KBO in English
After five seasons playing for the Chicago Cubs, Wisdom was designated for assignment on Nov. 20 before being released two days later. A former 28-home run hitter in Chicago and Rookie of the Year contender, injuries have taken a toll on Wisdom's offensive prowess in recent times.
In 2024, injuries limited Patrick Wisdom to just 75 games for the Cubs, in which the third baseman slashed .171/.237/.392 with 8 home runs and 23 RBIs.

The KIA Tigers - Wisdom's new team - defeated the Samsung Lions in October's Korea Series to win their twelfth title. On the Tigers' roster, Wisdom will join some other Americans, such as former Toronto Blue Jays catcher Eric Lauer and pitcher James Naile.
While more South Koreans endeavor to come to play in America than vice versa, an increasing number of American MLB talent are scoping out clubs in East Asia. With a big name like Wisdom making the jump, perhaps more household MLB names will follow before long.
Patrick Wisdom's move affirms KBO's rising attraction
In 2024, the KBO broke their viewership record, showing that South Korean interest in professional baseball has never been more intense. According to the Hanyang Journal, fans in their twenties comprise 38.1% of followers and 42.1% of spectators. Moreover, an average ticket price of $20 appeals to the economic sensitives of the Korean youth, encouraging in-person viewing.
Beer girls, cheerleaders and legendary stadium food make for a spectating experience that many claim is superior to MLB. With Wisdom's move to the KBO's Kia Tigers, the indication is that he will be far from the final MLB name who will make the jump to Korea.
