Paul Skenes' girlfriend Olivia Dunne expresses disappointment after Pirates' errors mar rookie's quality start vs. Cubs

While Olivia Dunne attends most of Paul Skenes' starts in PNC Park, she wasn't at the ballpark for Wednesday's game. And it seems his luck ran out despite a quality start, leading to a disappointing reaction from the LSU gymnast.

The Pittsburgh Pirates rookie was his usual dominant self against the Chicago Cubs. Skenes threw five innings, allowing five hits and two walks for two earned runs while striking out six Cubs hitters. The rookie left the game with a healthy 10-3 lead.

However, the Pirates' bullpen couldn't sustain such a large lead, giving up 11 runs in the last three innings to lose the game 14-10. This spoiled Skenes' quality start, erupting a disappointment from his girlfriend and social media star Olivia Dunne.

"You gotta be kidding me," Dunne tweeted using a GIF.

Olivia Dunne's beau Paul Skenes leads NL ROY in latest poll

MLB.com's latest poll for NL/AL Rookie of the Year gave up the likely contenders who can emerge victorious once the season ends.

As per the poll, Paul Skenes leads all NL rookies with 19 first-place votes, followed by Jackson Merrill's 11 first-place votes. Other names on the list include Jackson Chourio, Shota Imanaga and Tyler Fitzgerald.

However, Skenes, who made his debut in May, is highly likely to emerge as the honoree of the award. After drafting the LSU pitcher first overall in 2023, the Pirates are bearing the fruits of the rookie's incredible start to the season.

His performance not only earned him a spot in the NL All-Star but he also earned Torey Lovullo's nod to start from the mound for NL. After Wednesday's game, Paul Skenes is 8-2, holding a 2.23 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 136 strikeouts

Meanwhile in the AL, Baltimore Orioles' hitter Colten Cowser led the poll with 17 first-place votes, followed by the Yankees' ace Luis Gil with two first-place votes.

Coming back to Paul Skenes, NL ROY is not the only award the rookie is eyeing. He's also in contention for the coveted NL Cy Young award and is in a tight race with Zack Wheeler and Chris Sale. Had the LSU star debuted a little early, he would have been a runaway for the award but his low innings count might become a hindrance.
