Interestingly, Olivia Dunne started her social media fame when she joined the platform back in 2020. She started with videos of her training and then, as the following grew, she started sharing snaps from her personal life as well.

One might argue that Dunne's TikTok fame has opened doors to numerous brand deals and opportunities within the NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) space. As the highest-paid female athlete in college sports, her influence is undeniable.

In an interview with GQ, Dunne shared the story of how her journey started and how her follower count took off with one video.

"When I was an elite gymnast, I think I had amassed about 100,000 followers on Instagram, just gymnastics fans," Dunne told GQ. "Then during quarantine, I got stuck at our condo in Florida and I just started posting content of me flipping around at the beach. I couldn't go anywhere to flip around. I couldn't go to a gym, so I was doing it at the beach."

"I guess people found joy in that in such a dark time. So I did an onodi—which is this one skill—and it got a million likes for the first time ever for me. Then my videos just kept picking up from there, and it just kind of all took off after quarantine."

Moreover, the NCAA's NIL ruling in 2021, which allowed college athletes to profit from their Name, Image, and Likeness, came at the perfect time for the LSU gymnast. Her immense following led her to sign deals with brands like Vuori, American Eagle and several others.
