NL Rookie of the Year Paul Skenes and AL Cy Young award winner Tarik Skubal are two of the six new faces joining the newly elected eight-member MLBPA Executive Subcommittee. Cincinnati Reds pitcher Brent Suter and Texas Rangers infielder Marcus Semien both stayed on as members of the high-powered subcommittee.

The other four faces beside Skenes, Skubal, Semien and Suter are Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Chris Bassitt, Baltimore Orioles outfielder Cedric Mullins, San Diego Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth, and Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Pete Fairbanks.

Here's a closer look at the social media post that details the newly formed MLBPA Executive Subcommittee:

"Let’s get to work. The MLBPA today announced that representatives from each of the 30 Clubs elected new Major League Players to the union’s eight-member Executive Subcommittee," the MLBPA wrote in a post on Instagram.
"Minor League leadership also elected one Association Player Representative and two Alternate Association Player Representatives. The elections took place during the Association’s annual Executive Board meeting. Congratulations to the new Executive Board!" the caption added.

The six outgoing players who completed their two-year tenures are New York Mets infielder Francisco Lindor, former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Jack Flaherty, Chicago White Sox outfielder Austin Slater, Boston Red Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito, Houston Astros pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. and Chicago Cubs outfielder Ian Happ.

The members of the MLBPA Executive Subcommittee are chosen by representatives of all 30 MLB teams, who vote among a pool of potential nominees for the member positions on the committee.

Considering the emphatic seasons that Pittsburgh Pirates phenom Paul Skenes and Detroit Tigers southpaw Tarik Skubal had, many expected the talented pitchers to be voted on as members of the Executive Subcommittee.

Paul Skenes and Tarik Skubal registered some dominant performances at the mound in 2024

Paul Skenes received the big league call-up in May and was impressive with his strike-throwing abilities from the onset. He finished the season with an 11-3 record, 1.96 ERA, 170 strikeouts and 0.95 WHIP. Skenes was named the unanimous choice for the NL ROTY honors and also made it to the All-MLB First Team in 2024.

Meanwhile, Tarik Skubal was dominant in all his starts through the regular season and the postseason. The 28-year-old played an integral role in the Tigers' magical run to the ALDS for the first time in over a decade. He finished the regular season with an 18-4 record, 2.39 ERA, 228 strikeouts and 0.92 WHIP.
