Shohei Ohtani's historic season with the Los Angeles Dodgers might make some forget that he is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery but Freddie Freeman is not one of them. In an interview with Heidi Watney of Apple TV on Friday, the former Atlanta Braves star spoke about Ohtani's exceptional season.
"People are forgetting that he [Shohei Ohtani] is rehabbing [from] Tommy John [surgery] throughout the whole day, and then he goes and does what he does at night as a hitter is absolutely amazing to me. He's on mission, it seems like, this year. I think 50 [HRs] - 50 [SBs] is very doable," Freeman said.
Ohtani is just three homers and two stolen bases away from 50-50. Freeman slyly remarked Ohtani might achieve the feat against the Braves on Friday. However, the National League MVP favorite had an off night as he went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.
Freddie Freeman highlights other top baseballers of 2024
Shohei Ohtani's potential 50-50 season is not the only big thing happening in baseball. Aaron Judge has already scored 52 homers for the New York Yankees. Francisco Lindor has excelled for the New York Mets and is pushing his team's playoff hopes with batting and fielding at shortstop.
In the American League, Bobby Witt Jr. has become a revelation for the Kansas City Royals. Freddie Freeman is a fan of all the aforementioned players.
"I am a fan of baseball, not just my teammates, but of course around the league. When you get to see a season like this, even like Francisco Lindor, Bobby Witt Jr., Aaron Judge, those guys, you take a step back and appreciate what they are doing," Freeman told Apple TV.
Injuries and health problems of his youngest son, Maximus, have affected Freddie Freeman's season. However, he has performed when it mattered. Nonetheless, the accomplishments of his Japanese teammate have overshadowed him and several other notable performances in the MLB.
