The MLB offseason is underway, and teams are looking to grab each opportunity to improve their rosters as the 2025 season approaches. The New York Mets are no exception, as they currently face a difficult situation regarding Pete Alonso's contract.
That said, recent discussions regarding a potential contract for Alonso have generated a lot of buzz. MLB sportscaster Pete Hoffman gave his take on the situation in a post on X that he made on Saturday.
Shortly after this, MLB sportscaster Evan Roberts, who is also the host of Rico Brogna: A New York Mets Podcast, gave his ideal contract that the Mets should give Pete Alonso.
As Roberts' podcast went live on YouTube, Hoffman again took to his X account to make a post mentioning Alonso's contract.
Meanwhile, Evan Roberts had a completely different point of view from that of Pete Hoffman, which he put forward in his podcast.

"Pete Hoffman tweeted out earlier today, the Mets should give Pete Alonso an eight-year, $200 million contract. They are not gonna do that, they are staring Alonso down and telling him, 'We are not giving you a ton of years, you are gonna come back to us,'" said Roberts.
"Where you give Pete Alonso the taste and possibilities of everything, you could give him a three-year guarantee. He gets an opt-out after year one and year two. After that, he is locked in, and then year four and year five get picked up based on vesting options that I would attach to plate appearances," he added
Roberts gave his own structure of the contract that he would put in front of Pete Alonso.
"So, if we are giving him 30 in year one and two, that adds up to 60. Then, I got it down to $27 million. Now, we are at 87, then the next year will be 24, and then the year after that will be 24. That's a $135 million," Roberts explained.
"So, I am giving you a five-year, $135 million deal. It's an average annual salary of 27, which is pretty good, but if you want to opt out after year one or year two, you pocketed $30 million a year. So, that's my 'let's meet in the middle,' because the Mets are better off with him back, and I think Pete's better off coming back, that's for sure," concluded Roberts.
New York Mets eye Pete Alonso after historic record-breaking signing of Juan Soto
Dec. 8, 2024, was a historic day in the history of the MLB as it was the New York Mets and Juan Soto who made history. After a lot of anticipation and uncertainty, Soto and the Mets reached a historic record-breaking deal worth $765 million over 15 years.
After Soto's signature, the Mets now look to Pete Alonso to put pen to paper. As per former MLB infielder Carlos Baerga:
“Alonso is expected to sign soon."
The Mets have reportedly offered Alonso a 3-year contract worth $90 million with opt-out options. But Alonso is reportedly in pursuit of a $200 million deal.
