Pete Alonso is yet to ink a deal with any ballclub. Reportedly, the steep price asked by him and his agent Scott Boras have imepeded his place in any organization. The Mets have offered him a three-year $90 million deal, signalling the lack of interest by any team to go any higher.

In Mets analyst Karlos Ortiz's opinion, that's the best contract option available to Alonso who should take it. On The Bart Winkler Show by NY Post Sports, Ortiz said that the best case scenario for the Mets and their first baseman would be to sign a Cody Bellinger type deal.

"I don't think that he's going to get the long-term deal that he's looking for. Reportedly he's looking for 175-200 million, that's off the table. He might have to go with a Cody Bellinger type deal where it's 30 million first year 25,20 something to that extent where he could possibly get the 90 for over three years but get an opt out after the first.
"Bank on yourself but have a little bit of security like Cody Bellinger where it's just like 'Hey I didn't have the year I quite expected so maybe I'll just opt in for the other two years'. If the Mets can somehow make some kind of get Cody Bellinger type deal with Pete Alonzo I think the best case for all parties involved. Because now if he rakes he could just opt out next year and test the market again," Alonso said. [14:50]

This offseason, Bellinger signed a three-year $80 million contract with the Cubs, which included an opt-out option after the end of the first year.

Bellinger hit .266 with 18 home runs and didn't take the opt-out option, keeping him from being a free agent. Due to his lack of offensive production, the Cubs traded him away to the New York Yankees.

San Francsico Giants emerge as new contenders for Pete Alonso sweepstakes

As first reported by the San Francisco Chronicle, the Giants are new contenders for acquiring Pete Alonso's services. That comes after the NL West team failed to sign Corbin Burnes and are left with a sizeable amount to spend, consdering the ace pitchers signed for $210 million for six years with Arizona Diamondbacks.

They splurged big when they signed Matt Chapman to an extension and also got Willy Adames in free agency. If they beat the Mets in the race for Pete Alonso, they will have a solid infield balanced out in defensive and slugging abilities.
