All-star first baseman Pete Alonso is looking for a team ahead of the 2025 MLB season. Alonso has spent his entire career with the New York Mets, but they have not been able to agree to terms on a new contract.
He has been linked to several teams throughout the offseason, but a deal has yet to be reached. On Thursday, Ken Rosenthal provided an update on Alonso on "Foul Territory TV."
Rosenthal is a top MLB insider, who often reports about new contracts as they roll in.
"His (Alonso) market is heating up, that's one thing, and that's the most prominent thing in some ways," Rosenthal said. "He would go on to say, "Also, the Blue Jays are in the mix for Alonso, they are in talks, along with what we're hearing one other team besides the Mets."
Fans of the New York Mets might not be pleased to hear the initial report from Rosenthal, but he gave more context about what is happening.
"The Mets are talking to others, and if one of those players accepts their offer, well, then Pete Alonso will likely be gone," Rosenthal said.
Alonso recorded 34 home runs and 88 RBIs last season, in what many believe was his final campaign with the team. Alonso has maintained that he would like to remain with the Mets and fans showered him with appreciation after their final home game.
Pete Alonso Gets Support from David Wright
David Wright was once the face of the Mets and he knows what the pressure of playing in New York is. He is no longer with the team, but he recently talked about what Pete Alonso is going through.
"I think the majority of Mets fans, and myself included, would love to see Pete stay in a Mets uniform but I've never faulted a player for trying to go out there and test the market and to try to maximize that earning potential," Wright said on Tuesday, via "The Show" podcast.
With the start of the 2025 season fast approaching, Alonso will need to sign a contract soon. Whichever team lands him will get a slugger who has been a consistent performer throughout his career.
