The Philadelphia Phillies made it five wins in five after taking the first game of the series against the Miami Marlins at the LoanDepot Park on Thursday. The Phillies offense backed a strong start from Ranger Suarez for a comfortable 5-2 win.
The All-Star starter was lights out for the Phillies on the mound as he was involved in an intense battle against his opposite number, Adam Oller, till the fifth inning. Suarez went five innings deep, keeping the Marlins scoreless, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out four.
Meanwhile, Oller, who had conceded just one run in the first five innings, was taken off the mound after conceding a solo homer to Bryson Stott in the sixth. The Phillies capitalized for four runs in the inning to take a 5-0 lead in the game.
Despite a late fightback from the hosts, the Phillies held on for a comfortable win in the series opener.

Bryson Stott's home run tonight
The Phillies' series opener wasn't a run fest by any stretch of imagination and it was only a late surge from the visitors that saw them reach the five-run mark with a total of eight runs scored in the game.
Only one player managed to go deep in the game and it was Philadelphia's second baseman, Bryson Stott. The 26-year-old, who opened the scoring for the Phillies in the first inning with an RBI single off Adam Oller, punished the Marlins starter in the sixth inning with a solo home run over the right field fence, his 11th home run of the season.
Kody Clemens followed up with a two-run double in the same inning. The Phillies capitalized on a wild pitch by Anthony Veneziano to score the fourth run of the inning. The Marlins responded by racking up a run in the seventh and eighth inning but Phillies closer Matt Strahm kept it cool in the ninth inning to earn a save and claim the win for his team.
