Thursday proved to be a tough one for the Philadelphia Phillies as they saw their two stars, Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber get injured. Schwarber experienced groin tightness and exited the ninth inning while Harper injured his hamstring during the final out.
To top it all off, the team lost the game 7-4 to the Miami Marlins, and neither will be in the lineup on Friday. They have both been placed on the 10-day IL, and manager Rob Thomson believes they can return before the All-Star game.
While it is thought that the pair avoided significant injury, this is still a blow to the team. They have a few series, including one with the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers on the horizon:
"Oh god that's horrible. Phillies finally coming back down to earth tho," one fan posted.
"Wow bro. That sucks," posted another.
"This baseball season is trying to take everyone out glad to hear it’s only some minor stuff. The sport needs everyone healthy," posted another.
Some fans could see the Phils taking a hit with two of their sluggers down on the IL. Some other players must step up, given Harper and Schwarber have 37 combined home runs:
"It's crazy how many of the best players in mlb are currently on the IL, may just be a coincidence but I wasn't surprised here," said another fan.
"I'm not allowed to be happy," said another.
"That’s a relief. All the best players in baseball are hurt and most of them significantly so. Glad they’re alright," said another.
Other fans cannot help but notice the sheer amount of stars that have been injured this season. Luckily, neither Harper nor Schwarber have experienced the misfortune other stars like Ronald Acuna Jr. have faced.
Phillies must hold it down with Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber injured
There is no question that other Phillies sluggers must step up with Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber on the IL. Luckily, they play two teams who have been struggling as of late.
Philadelphia will finish their series with the Miami Marlins over the weekend before taking on the Chicago Cubs to kick off July.
