The Philadelphia Phillies have lived up to the expectations placed on them so far this season. With only five games remaining in the regular season, the Phils will enter the playoffs as one of the favorites to win the World Series thanks to their star-studded lineup and world-class pitching staff.
Despite having some of the most talented players in the MLB, the Philadelphia Phillies have remained grounded and focused on the potentially long postseason ahead. This is something that former Philadelphia general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. believes is a big reason behind the team's strong 2024 campaign.
In the latest episode of The Phillies Show, Amaro spoke about the team's biggest stars and their discipline and ability to stay level-headed despite winning.
"The one thing that I will say about this team, they have alot of humility [11:20]," Amaro Jr. said of the Philadelphia core.
The Philadelphia Phillies rank ninth in home runs (191) and fourth in batting average (.258), while their pitching staff sits eighth in strikeouts (1,385) and seventh in team ERA (3.76).
Ranking in the top half of nearly every statistical category could affect the mindset of a team, however, this is not something that has happened with the team, as per Ruben Amaro Jr.:
"Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner, Harper, Realmuto, Wheeler, Nola... these are stars in the game and they are really humble. For the most part, they are really super humble. You don't see them flippin' bats and freakin' out [11:30]."
While the Philadelphia core certainly plays with a high level of passion for the game, the veterans on this team exude a certain level of professionalism day in and day out. Will it finally be enough to lead them to a World Series title? Only time will tell.
Philadelphia Phillies are one of the betting favorites to win the World Series this year
Unsurprisingly, based on the numbers listed above, Philadelphia is currently viewed as one of the favorites to win the World Series. The Phils have the second-best odds on FanDuel, sitting at +410. The only team ahead of Philadelphia are the star-studded Los Angeles Dodgers who sit at +300.
If Bryce Harper and the rest of the rsoter are finally going to bring a title back to Philadelphia for the first time since 2008, they will likely have to battle it out against Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The one thing working in Philadelphia's favor is the fact that they have gone 5-1 against LA this season. While the playoffs are different, the Phillies had the upper hand in the regular season.
