In Philadelphia Phillies news, their owner recently revealed he doesn't want to win one World Series. The Phillies came so close to winning one last year after a stunning run through the National League playoffs. Should they win one this year, they wouldn't necessarily be reaching Middleton's goals.
He believes it would be a disappointment for the team currently assembled to win a solitary World Series. He said to 94 WIP in a radio interview:
"You have short-term goals, and you have long-term goals. I spoke to them in the locker room on the first day of full practice. … I started out by saying, 'I don't want to win a World Series.'"
He continued via Sports Illustrated:
"And people kind of looked at me. And then I said, 'The reason I don't want to win a World Series is, if the people in this room only win one World Series, I'm going to be really disappointed.’”
Their roster is good, but Middleton wants to see them win a few championships together.
Phillies news: Bryce Harper not on 60-day IL to start season
In other Philadelphia Phillies news, Bryce Harper is not going to be placed on the 60-day injured list to begin the season. Harper is recovering from Tommy John surgery and is expected to miss time until the All-Star break.
However, the team is opting not to shut him down like that just yet. This doesn't mean a recovery is coming sooner, but Dave Dombrowski likes to keep his options open.
Harper will still be out for a while, but the team wants flexibility for him if his recovery goes swimmingly.
