Alex Bregman's Houston Astros have been creeping up on the 28-26 Seattle Mariners in first place in the AL West. At 24-29 and in third, the Astros are within striking range. Consistent winning is going to be key for Houston if they are to take the division, and Bregman improving his hitting would be hugely beneficial to the team.

On the home front, Bregman's son, Knox, went fishing with his grandfather, as could be seen on Reagan Bregman's Instagram, where she shared a photo of a successful catch:

Knox has been having a great time during the 2024 season, which Bregman shared in a string of photos on IG that he captioned:

"Growing up SO FAST!"

Alex Bregman doesn't feel pressured by playing in a contract year

With Alex Bregman playing in the last year of his contract, there has been a lot of talk throughout the season about his future and potentially a trade. The consensus is that Bregman needs to put up big numbers this campaign to warrant a mega contract for 2025 and beyond.

However, when speaking to The Athletic in late April, Bregman said that he doesn't feel any pressure to do so:

“I find zero pressure in regards to playing in a contract year. I play the game to be an elite player in the game. I could give a sh*t about anything but playing at a high level. The only thing I want to do is play baseball at a high level as long as I can play the game at a high level.
“I find zero pressure in anything besides the pressure I put on myself to perform at a high level every single day regardless of the year — contract year, whatever, I don’t give a sh*t. I want to play baseball at a high level and play the game well as long as I can play the game and win.”

Like Bregman, the Astros are also focused on winning in 2024. While they got off to a rocky start to the campaign, the season is far from over, and the team could very well challenge for the division.

With the Mariners and the Texas Rangers also struggling for consistency recently, the AL West is wide open.
