They say a dog is a man's best friend, and that seems true with New York Yankees slugger Anthony Rizzo and his pet, Kevin. Throughout his career, Rizzo has been seen multiple times with his dog, who was a driving force to get Aaron Judge to re-sign.
Kevin has become an important part of the Rizzo family. The dog is so important that Rizzo decided to put him on his cleats for a Friday afternoon game in Chicago against the Cubs.
On the cleats, Kevin is in a hot dog bun while wearing the Bronx Bombers top hat.
However, this is not the only pair of Kevin-inspired cleats that Rizzo has made in his career. He also had some custom cleats when he was a member of the Cubs in 2021.
Yankees slugger Anthony Rizzo was great in his Kevin-inspired cleats on Friday
With his dog on his cleats and playing against his former club, Anthony Rizzo had some extra motivation coming into Friday's matchup with the Cubs. The Yankees were also coming off a two-game losing streak, so Friday's game was important.
Rizzo and the Bronx Bombers had little trouble putting away the Cubs. They won the game 3-0, improving their record to 81-60. Rizzo finished the day going 1-for-3 with a walk.
Luis Gil and the bullpen were rather impressive on Friday. Gil went six innings, giving up no runs on one hit, while the bullpen shut the door.
The Yanks will finish up their series with the Cubs over the weekend before they face off against the Kansas City Royals. This could be a series that truly tests them, given how Kansas City has looked this year.
