New York Yankees pitcher Luis Gil produced an exemplary outing on Saturday, and fellow starter Marcus Stroman celebrated Gil's feat by gifting him a couple of wine bottles on Sunday ahead of the series finale against the Chicago White Sox.
Take a look at Marcus Stroman's gift for his teammate Gil, who helped the Bombers seal another regular-season series win with a masterclass performance at the mound.
The rose gold and white wine bottles came from Le Carenage Wines, which is a winery Marcus Stroman owns and is based out of Northern California.
Luis Gil produced a performance of a lifetime against the White Sox in Game 2 on Saturday. The 25-year-old Dominican gave up a run in the top of the first inning, but after which he made no mistakes. He sailed through six innings, giving up five hits, one walk, and striking out a career-high 14 batters to register his fifth win for the Yankees in the 2024 campaign.
The Bombers offense supported Gil in his dominant outing as they blasted a total of four home runs in Saturday's game at Yankee Stadium. Juan Soto curled two home runs while DH Giancarlo Stanton and backstop Jose Trevino smashed one each in the Yanks' 6-1 win.
The Bombers then completed the sweep of the White Sox on Sunday after winning the series finale 7-2. They will be taking on the AL West-leading Seattle Mariners next.
Marcus Stroman and Luis Gil will bookend upcoming Mariners series
The New York Yankees will kick off a four-game series against the Seattle Mariners on Monday night at Yankee Stadium.
Marcus Stroman, who is 3-2 for the season, will be up against the Mariners' Logan Gilbert in the series opener on Monday, while in-form ace Luis Gil will pitch in the series finale against Seattle on Thursday in an attempt to take his regular season record to 6-1 for the Yankees.
For Game 2, the Yanks will start Clarke Schmidt on the mound, and for Game 3, the ball will be given to Nestor Cortes. But the Bombers will be hoping for Marcus Stroman to give them a winning start against the AL West leaders while looking to Gil to close off yet another series win in the 2024 MLB season.
