New York Yankees starter Nestor Cortes Jr. spent a day out with his wife Alondra in front of a scenic New York skyline. The 29-year-old spent some quality family time with his wife, Alondra Cortes, as the latter posted a snap of the couple's getaway on Monday.
In the story posted to Alondra's Instagram account, she was hugging her husband as Nestor Jr. looked at the camera. Behind them were the open waters, with the towering buildings of Manhattan in the distance, providing a scenic setting for a romantic evening.
Nestor Cortes Jr. and wife Alondra have been dating since 2015. The couple made headlines when the Yanks pitcher proposed to his long-time girlfriend during the 2022 All-Star weekend. The couple tied the knot in a private ceremony in November 2023.
Nestor Cortes Jr. fighting to keep his place in Yankees rotation
Nestor Cortes Jr. has had it tough going this season. His season ERA is at 3.99 and he currently holds a 4-9 record. On Saturday, Cortes found it difficult against the Tampa Bay Rays as he earned six runs in 4.1 innings, including three home runs.
After Saturday's start, there's some concern surrounding Cortes Jr.'s position in the team's rotation. With the July 30 trade deadline approaching, the front office are eyeing starting pitchers to trade for.
AL All-Star starter and Detroit Tigers' ace Tarik Skubal is one, while they are also looking at a possible trade for Cubs starter Jameson Taillon. If the Yankees are unable to land any of these pitchers, they have the option of bringing in someone from within their system.
The likes of Clayton Beeter (3-1, 2.53 ERA in seven starts), who has been impressive in Triple-A and a returning Cody Poteet (3-0, 2.14 ERA in four starts) can contest for Cortes Jr.'s spot in the rotation.
Nestor Cortes Jr. is currently scheduled to start against the Boston Red Sox on July 27.
