Although pitcher Trevor Bauer can’t seem to find his way back to the MLB, he has been making records in another league. The Cy Young Award winner is playing for the Diablos Rojos del Mexico of the Mexican League.
Bauer is signed with the team for the entire 2024 season and has become a dominant force in the LMB. He initially signed for just five games but has now become a top player in Mexico, boasting an impressive 10-0 record.
Trevor Bauer, who previously set a Mexican record with nine consecutive strikeouts, extended it by striking out 19 batters, setting a single-game record. Against the Guerreros de Oaxaca on June 22, he pitched 8.2 innings, giving up five hits and one run, leading the Diablos Rojos to a 6-1 victory.
Mexican masked wrestler Euforia honored the 33-year-old for his feat. In Trevor Bauer’s Instagram post, he and Euforia are featured facing each other, making a fist.
“Shoutout to @euforia_cmll for the sick custom Lucha Libre mask with “19K” in honor of my record setting strikeout game—this is incredibly special! Looking forward to watching you fight soon!” he captioned the post.
Trevor Bauer is wearing a red Diablos Rojos uniform while Euforia is wearing a black T-shirt with a Superman logo and his signature red and white custom-made wrestling mask. His mask has '19 K' and Bauer’s silhouette engraved on it to commemorate the latter's strikeout record.
Trevor Bauer frustrated with MLB team ownerships for not signing him despite interest from general managers
Bauer has been out of the MLB since he was released by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2023 following accusations of sexual assault and battery.
Despite claiming innocence, he hasn't been signed by any MLB team, and he blames team ownership for that. When a fan discussed why MLB general managers haven't signed him, Bauer said:
“Some have been asked. Apparently it’s potentially against someone’s morals to sign a falsely accused innocent person or some such bullshit. Even so, many GMs would sign me in a heartbeat if they were allowed to. The question isn’t with the GMs. 'Its an ownership and MLB decision.'”
Before playing in the Mexican league, Bauer showcased his prowess in Japan, achieving a 2.76 ERA and recording 130 strikeouts in 130.2 innings pitched.
