Corey Seager was one of the biggest reasons why the Texas Rangers can call themselves a World Series champion. Though we are already over halfway through the 2024 season, the celebration of their 2023 World Series win continued on Thursday as they visited the White House upon an invitation from President Joe Biden.
During the visit, the 46th president of the United States recalled a moment where Seager overwhelmed the Texas crowd when he reeled off a famous Kanye West line after winning the World Series.
"From football to basketball to hockey to soccer, many doubters wondered if baseball would ever join them. Well, to paraphrase Corey Seager, I guess we do know. We do," POTUS said in his speech.
“I just have one thing to say. Everybody was wondering what would happen if the Rangers didn't win the World Series. I guess we'll never know,” Seager said this upon receiving his second World Series MVP trophy.
This came after Alex Bregman made a similar remark at the end of the regular season when the Houston Astros edged out the Rangers to win the AL West division by the slimmest of margins.
“A lot of people were wondering what it was going to be like if the ‘Stros didn't win the division. I guess we'll never know,” Bregman said.
Not only did the Rangers avenge their divisional loss to the Astros but they also went on to win their first World Series. They defeated the Tampa Bay Rays in the Wild Card round, the Baltimore Orioles in the divisional round, the Astros in the ALCS round, and finally the Arizona Diamondbacks in the World Series.
President Joe Biden also shouts out Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi and Adolis Garcia
President Joe Biden also gave a shout-out to starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi and slugger Adolis Garcia, whose contributions were vital in the Rangers' World Series victory.
“The standout pitcher. Nathan (Eovaldi). Major League record with five wins in a single postseason.” Biden said. “(Adolis) Garcia. Another major league record. Most RBIs in a single (post)season.”
Both individuals had a record postseason.
Eovaldi went 5-0 (MLB record) with an ERA of 2.95 and 41 strikeouts in six appearances last postseason.
On the other hand, Garcia batted .323 with 20 hits, eight home runs, 22 RBIs (an MLB record) and 11 runs scored in 15 games last postseason.
