Baltimore Orioles ace Corbin Burnes has been tabbed to start Tuesday's All-Star Game. After rookie sensation Paul Skenes got a historic nod to start for the National League, manager Bruce Bochy decided to counter with a former Cy Young winner in Burnes.

MLB reporter Jon Heyman said:

"Orioles star Corbin Burnes is expected to get the All-Star start for the AL vs. NL starter Paul Skenes."

There are quite a few very good starting pitchers in the AL that could have been picked. But Bochy ended up settling on Burnes, who wasn't even in the American League last year.

He could have chosen Detroit Tigers star Tarik Skubal, Garret Crochet from the Chicago White Sox, Tanner Houck from the Boston Red Sox, or Kansas City Royals star Cole Ragans. He opted for Burnes, and fans had their say on the matter.

"Skubal robbed MLB is a joke," one said.
"Who’s managing the AL??? Did Skubal die?" another asked.
"LMAOOOOOO ARE YOU SERIOUS," one screamed.
"Over Skubal and Houck is hilarious," another added.
"The Cy Young Award will feel that much better for Skubal now," one said.

It's worth noting that Tarik Skubal did pitch on Friday before the break. While a Tuesday start would have fit in the regular rest schedule, it would have prevented him from opening up the second half for the Tigers.

What pitchers will follow Corbin Burnes in All-Star Game?

Even though only one player can start, the majority of pitchers will get into the All-Star game at some point. That includes those passed up for the start, unless they can't because of their regular season schedule or workload.

Corbin Burnes will start. Then the AL can use any of these players:

  • Tyler Anderson, LAA
  • Emmanuel Clase, CLE
  • Garrett Crochet, CWS
  • Logan Gilbert, SEA
  • Clay Holmes, NYY
  • Tanner Houck, BOS
  • Seth Lugo, KC
  • Mason Miller, OAK
  • Andrés Muñoz, SEA
  • Cole Ragans, KC
  • Tarik Skubal, DET
  • Kirby Yates, TEX

It will be up to Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy to determine who goes after Burnes and how he manages his talented bullpen.
