American country music singer-songwriter Ingrid Andress sang the national anthem ahead of the 2024 MLB Home Run Derby. However, fans weren't impressed with her rendition and flocked to social media to render their views.
Throughout the rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner," Andress missed high notes while struggling to keep up with the pace.
One fan used a picture of an attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump as if to suggest that they weren't impressed with the country singer's performance.
"Probably the worst we’ve ever heard 😭😭," one fan commented.
"I guess we know why they arent grammy wins," one fan used her non-Grammy cabinet to troll the musician.
"Wow that was painful," another wrote.
"What the f**k was that? Hell I could’ve done better than that and I consider myself a horrible singer…🤷♂️," one wrote.
"That was so embarrassing smh MLB should be ashamed of themselves," another posted.
"Hearing that makes me wish we lost to the British….," another added.
This is not the first time the internet has been critical of a national anthem performance at a major sporting event. Former YouTuber and American singer-songwriter Conan Grey was also subject to trolls after he sang the national anthem at the 2022 MLB Home Run Derby.
Alec Bohm smirks during Ingrid Andress' national anthem rendition
Ingrid Andress' performance wasn't only poorly received by fans, but also the players. Philadelphia Phillies slugger Alec Bohm, a participant in this year's Home Run Derby, couldn't help but leave a smirk, which was caught on camera.
This led many to compare this rendition of the national anthem to that of Fergie's at the 2018 NBA All-Star Game.
Ingrid Andress, 32, has been nominated for three Grammy Awards. She has won the BMI Country Awards for Most-Performed Songs of the Year in 2020 and 2023 for her work, "More Hearts Than Mine" and "Wishful Drinking."
