The Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly interested in Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Randy Arozarena, according to MLB Insider Mark Feinsand, who also mentioned the club is looking for an upgrade in the outfield.
Last week, the Dodgers were reportedly in talks with the Chicago White Sox for a deal that included Luis Robert Jr. Now it seems they plan to catch an even bigger target in Arozarena.
Randy Arozarena has appeared in 97 games this season, hitting .209, including 15 homers, 14 stolen bases and 35 RBIs. Though the Rays will likely be competitive next season, as their history states, they like to trade out players before they start to cost more, which Arozarena would do in the next arbitration (approximately $11 million).
More so, they will likely inherit their top prospects, whom the Dodgers will be okay to let go of in exchange for an All-Star bat.
The Dodgers' need to upgrade their outfield comes after both Andy Pages and Jason Heyward are not doing well on plate. While Pages is hitting .252 with eight home runs and 28 RBI, Heyward is hitting .203 with a .710 OPS.
Dodgers eye Detroit Tigers ace' Tarik Skubal ahead of deadline
The Dodgers were hit badly when their starting pitchers started to hit the injured list before making the All-Star break. Though some are returning, they still need a starting arm that can help their postseason odds.
Detroit Tigers' ace Tarik Skubal sits perfectly in their plan and enough has been said about their reported interest in him. Another starting pitcher of interest could be the Chicago White Sox's Garrett Crochet but the priority remains with Skubal, as per sources.
For the Dodgers, starting pitchers Tyler Glasnow, Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buehler and Yoshinobu Yamamoto are all on the injured list, with the first two returning to action this week.
On the offense, the Dodgers are without Mookie Betts and Max Muncy. Coupled with their need to inherit starting pitchers, expect the club to be active, heading closer to the July 30 trade deadline.
