As we are creeping up on Christmas, Boston Red Sox fans are getting an early present, LHP Garrett Crochet. The reliever turned-starter will have a new opportunity pitching for a storied franchise after news of the blockbuster trade.

According to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal, which was first reported by Julian McWilliams, Boston will be giving up four prospects. The four prospects include Kyle Teel, Braden Montgomery, Chase Meidroth, and Wikelman Gonzalez.

This is quite the haul the White Sox are receiving for Crochet. Teel was the 14th overall selection in the 2023 MLB Draft and is coming into the new season as Boston's fourth-best prospect.

Braden Montgomery sits right behind Teel as Boston's No. 5 prospect while Meidroth and Gonzalez sit 11th and 14th. Chicago is rebuilding, and getting some highly-touted prospects helps them.

Garrett Crochet likely to be a big boost in the Red Sox rotation

Garrett Crochet was the White Sox first-round pick during the 2020 MLB Draft. He was quickly called up by the end of the year to help the club out of the bullpen, being the 22nd player to go straight to the big leagues.

This past season, Chicago transitioned him into a starting pitcher. While his record largely depicted the woeful team he played for, he had a great first season as a starting pitcher.

Crochet was only one of 11 pitchers who were able to reach 200 strikeouts during the regular season in 2024. He finished with 209, which is not far away from Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal's MLB-leading 228.

This is great for a Red Sox rotation that finished in the middle of the pack in terms of strikeouts and ERA. Crochet could make this Boston rotation one that opposing hitters do not look forward to facing.
