Former Yankees hitting coach Dillon Lawson spoke about Aaron Judge's hitting prowess and what makes him one of the best baseball players in the world.
Lawson worked with the New York Yankees organization for over five years and has now joined the Boston Red Sox. Having worked with Judge, Lawson knows first hand what makes the slugger a great player. While many may focus on his physical attributes, Lawson spoke about Judge's mental strength and how it has made him the player he's today.
On the Baseball Isn't Boring podcast, he outlined the qualities of Judge (12:30 - 16:02):
"Aaron, first and foremost, is an incredible person and I think it's very genuine. He's a pro's pro, I could go on and on about that. Yes he's big, yes he's really strong, he cares a ton, he's super convicted. That'll take you a really long way ... on top of that, he controls the zone.
"I think the best hitters in this game, they find a way to still perform and get results even when they know their swing is off or they're not seeing it quite as well... We look at the best players and they're consistently good. Sometimes it doesn't mean that their swing and the results at the plate are consistently good but their performance is and they're bringing value every night. That's something that does separate him and a lot of top guys across the league."
Over his 10-year career in the major leagues, Aaron Judge has established himself as one of the best sluggers in the game. In 2023, he blasted 62 home runs during regular season, setting a single-season record in the American League.
Aaron Judge dominates 2020s MLB home run leaderboard with 205 moonshots
Halfway into the 2020s, MLB released the leaderboard on the most home runs hit by players since the start of the decade. Aaron Judge came out as the clear leader with 205 blasts, followed by Shohei Ohtani in second with 185.
Judge's statistics prove that he's by far the best power hitter in the majors in the past five years. Despite missing major chunks of the multiple seasons due to injuries, the New York Yankees slugger remains the undisputed slugging champion in the MLB.
