The Boston Red Sox have a lot to prove this upcoming season. They just watched their rivals, the New York Yankees make it all the way to the World Series after Boston missed the postseason the last three years.
They have some solid pieces coming into the 2025 season, but they are a player or two away from being a contender. Luckily for them, there are some key free agents still available.
One of the biggest free agents out there is Alex Bregman, who is projected to make $200 million, per MLB insider Mark Feinsand. He would be an excellent fit, and MLB insider Ken Rosenthal sees the two striking a deal this winter.
"Logically, right now, if you had to guess, my guesses would be Bregman to Boston, Alonso back to the Mets, and Santander to Toronto," said Rosenthal.
Bregman is familiar with Boston's manager Alex Cora as the two developed a relationship when Cora was working with the Astros. This could give them a clear advantage over other teams looking to add the two-time All-Star.
"Bregman to the Red Sox to me is a move that seems very logical. They need a right-handed bat, they've needed that since last season and Bregman can play second base for them or they can play him at third and move Devers over to first or DH him" said Rosenthal.
Alex Bregman to the Red Sox is picking up serious steam
Alex Bregman has been linked to the Boston Red Sox for nearly all offseason, but it is starting to pick up some serious steam. The Houston Astros just added Isaac Paredes and Christian Walker to man the corner infield positions, likely leaving Bregman to sign elsewhere.
Bregman has been linked to other teams as well like the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers. However, the Tigers do not have a rich history of giving out large contracts to free agents and some insiders do not believe the Yankees are very serious.
It could very well be Boston as the clear-cut winner here. They have the motivation and the cash to get better this winter and that is their entire goal this offseason.
Bregman would be a great fit in Boston alongside Rafael Devers and Jarren Duran. They would be sure to shake up the American League East and make it exciting.
