Reds insider believes Elly De La Cruz will join MLB’s elite top 10

Many scouts were high on Cincinnati Reds prospect Elly De La Cruz. They believed he had the complete package, being a true five-tool player and he did not disappoint.

During his rookie year in 2023, he showed the world what he was capable of. He parlayed that with a solid sophomore season, and the fanbase has become infatuated with his play.

Many are excited to see what he can bring to the table in his third season, including The Athletic's C. Trent Rosecrans. He joined the crew over at "Foul Territory" on Friday to discuss Cruz's excellence.

"There's certain guys you just don't question anything. I used to say about Joey Votta that you can tell me anything about Joey and I'd believe it," said Rosecrans.

Rosecrans covers the Reds and has done so for quite a while now. He compares Cruz's aura to that of Joey Votto who seemingly could do it all both on and off the field.

"With Elly, there is nothing on the field that you can tell me that he is capable of doing that I wouldn't believe" said Rosecrans.

MLB came out with their top 10 shortstop list ahead of the 2025 season. In it, Reds slugger Elly De La Cruz cracked the top 10, taking the eighth spot right ahead of San Francisco Giants shortstop Willy Adames.

This is quite the accomplishment for someone who is going into their third season in the big leagues. He certainly has a chance to continue to climb these ranks over the years as he continues to develop.

MLB ranked Corey Seager as the second-best in the league. This left Gunnar Henderson to claim the top spot after an electric 2024 season.
