Roki Sasaki, a superstar pitcher from Japan, is being represented by agent Joel Wolfe. Sasaki was recently posted by his Japanese team, and that has allowed MLB teams to begin making pitches to sign the ace. He's next in a long line of pitchers who have made the move from Japan.
Several teams have lined up for a meeting with Saski, but not every team has been given an opportunity to meet him. He's expected to join the starting rotation of a team right away, and that makes him extremely valuable. While nothing is set in stone, it appears that a decision is coming soon.
The above screenshot comes from MLB.com from Monday, and you can see that there are a number of stories available. Joel Wolfe has been providing updates on his timeline and has informed teams that a decision is coming. It has been a wild ride for Sasaki during these meetings, but teams are starting to get trimmed down.
As for the process, here is what Wolfe said about the meetings:
"It was like the Roki film festival."
Wolfe discussed the process that has been taking place:
"He wanted to make sure that everything was a fair and level playing field, both for his own decision-making process and for the team."
It's always a challenge for Japanese players to pick an MLB team, and it has taken Roki Sasaki some time to decide what is going to be right for him.
Roki Sasaki aims to be best ever
Roki Sasaki had a chance to earn a massive contract from an MLB team if he waited to become an international free agent. Instead of waiting for that time to happen, he wanted to come over to the United States to get his career started early.
"Roki Sasaki wants to be one of the greatest, ever," Joel Wolfe said (per USA Today's Bob Nightengale). "He's a guy that wants to be great. He's not coming here just to be rich."
An MLB team is going to be given the chance to sign Roki Sasaki soon, and then it will be up to him to live up to the hype.
