New York Mets skipper Carlos Mendoza backs Luisangel Acuna to have "huge role" in 2025
On Saturday, New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza spoke to SNY, shedding some light on his plans and preparations for the new season. Promising youngster Luisangel Acuna was also brought up in the conversation, with Mendoza saying the 22-year-old is set to play a key role for his team in 2025.
"He (Luisangel Acuna) is going to have a big role, he's going to have a huge role. I said [Jeff] McNeil is going to be a big part of our team, Luisangel is right there too. We keep saying that the young players are going to get opportunities, Luisangel will get his." Carlos Mendoza said
"Like I said earlier, he's taking ground balls at third base, so he's part of that mix. He showed us that he can play at this level, so he will continue to get opportunities." Carlos Mendoza added
Acuna showed that he belonged at the top level when he got a chance during the 2024 season. He was handed his debut in mid-September when arguably the Mets' most important player, Francisco Lindor, had to withdraw from the lineup due to discomfort in his back.
The Mets organization and fans will be hoping the Venezuelan can continue to improve as he gains experience, going on to become a star for the team in the years to come.
