Last season, Luisangel Acuna, the younger brother of Atlanta Braves superstar Ronald Acuna Jr. made his big-league debut with the New York Mets. He played in 14 games, getting his first taste of MLB action.
Now, with an open position at third base heading into 2025, Luisangel is looking to make the most of it. The Mets are not likely to re-sign Pete Alonso this offseason, moving Mark Vientos to first and letting their young guys compete for third base.
Luisangel is making the most of his offseason before he heads to camp on February 19. The slugger posted multiple videos of his Thursday workout on his Instagram story.
Luisangel was putting in work on the pulley machine. This machine is vital for hitters who want to increase their power at the plate, so do not be surprised if the slugger turns it up a notch in 2025.
Luisangel also got in some work with the medicine ball. He looks more than ready to continue to make a name for himself during his fifth year of professional ball.
Ronald Acuna Jr. and Luisangel Acuna were destined to play pro ball
Before there was a Ronald Acuna Jr. and a Luisangel Acuna, there was a Ronald Acuna Sr. He got things started for his boys as he was their coach and role model growing up.
Ronald Acuna Sr. spent eight years as a minor leaguer. He played for the New York Mets, Toronto Blue Jays, and Milwaukee Brewers. However, he was never able to make it past Double-A.
After his playing days were over, he turned his focus on his three boys. While Luisangel and Ronald get much of the attention, they also have a third brother, Kenny, who also plays professional baseball.
Ronald Sr. helped train the three and helped them navigate their paths to the pros. He understood his shortcomings and made sure his boys had the advantages he did not have growing up.
He did great as all three of his sons are playing professional baseball. Ronald is coming off an MVP season with the Braves in 2023. Luisangel is getting ready to make a bigger impact in 2025, and Kenny signed a deal with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2024.
