The recent trade deadline provided exciting opportunities for a variety of players. Unfortunately, Miguel Vargas was not one of them. The Cuban emigree was dealt from one of MLB's top contending teams to the team with the worst record in baseball, the Chicago White Sox.

When Vargas was traded to Chicago on July 29, the team had already gone nineteen days since their last win. On Monday, the Sox dropped their twenty-first straight contest. After the loss, Vargas was spotted in the dugout. To say that he did not look thrilled would be an understatement.

"Update: Miguel Vargas doesn’t look too happy in Chicago"

The footage of the brooding Cuban was posted by a Dodgers fan account after Vargas and the Sox fell 5-1 to the Oakland Athletics. Seeing as though most of the comments came from Dodgers fans, most of the sentiments expressed pity for Vargas, whose team has now tied an AL record for consecutive losses.

With their 21st straight loss, the White Sox tied the 1988 Baltimore Orioles with their historic losing streak. To make matters all the more regretful for Miguel Vargas, the utility infielder is just 3-for-24 since he joined the team.

"He went from one is the best franchises with the potential to win the WS to one of the worst franchises, I’m sad for him" - lamented a fan
"Dang it, hang in there bro" - was another wish of support
"Would you be happy playing there?" - asked an onlooker

Now 24 years of age, Vargas made his MLB debut for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2022. In 2023, he appeared in 81 games, but still only managed to slash .195/.305/.367 with 7 home runs and 32 RBIs.

"Looks like a kid that transferred to a new school in the middle of the school year" - was one quip
"That is so depressing why would you let me see that" - cried another fan

Miguel Vargas was involved in a three-team trade that saw White Sox players Tommy Edman and Michael Kopech go to LA.

Miguel Vargas and company are making history for all the wrong reasons

With the Dodgers, Vargas was on a team that has been touted as the best of the modern age. Now, the young infielder finds himself on a team that might finish with one of the worst records in modern baseball history. After the loss on Monday, manager Pedro Grifol told The Guardian:

“Everybody knows what it is. It’s 21 in a row. It sucks. It’s not fun. It’s painful. It hurts. You name it. However you want to describe it. It’s not for lack of effort. Nobody wants to come out here and lose, so we’ve just got to put a good game together and put this behind us.”

A week ago, Vargas was undoubtedly expecting to be playing deep into October. However, nobody has ever claimed baseball to be fair.
