Kansas City stars Salvador Perez and Bobby Witt Jr. were pumped up after Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs punched their ticket to the AFC Championship game. The Chiefs are seeking a fourth conference title in their seventh-straight AFC Championship game appearance.
In similar posts on Instagram, both Perez and Witt shared a photo of the Chiefs' victory. While the Royals captain placed fire emojis, the young infielder chose the other route and placed a chilling emoji—signifying that Mahomes was ice cold in the clutch.
As the number one seed in the AFC, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs were gifted a bye week during the wild card round. They then faced CJ Stroud and the Houston Texans at home and were fortunate enough to fend off their adversary's charge 24-13 in the divisional round.
They are now scheduled to face MVP candidate Josh Allen and his Buffalo Bills on Sunday, January 26, 2025, in a highly anticipated AFC Championship game wherein the winner will advance to Super Bowl LIX at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Interestingly enough, one of the only two losses that the Chiefs have incurred this year was against Allen and the Bills. It would be interesting to see if Mahomes and the Chiefs can make their fifth Super Bowl appearance in the past six years or if Allen and the Bills have found the antidote to the NFL's modern-day dynasty.
Patrick Mahomes' links to baseball
Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes is the son of former MLB pitcher Pat Mahomes. The elder Mahomes made his debut for the Minnesota Twins in 1992 and called it quits in 2003 with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The NFL star, on the other hand, excelled in baseball at Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse, Texas. In the 2014 MLB Draft, Patrick was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 37th round but didn't sign a deal with the team as he committed to play football at Texas Tech.
However, his love for the game didn't wane as he played baseball up until his sophomore year in college.
In 2020, Patrick Mahomes would find linking himself back to his roots and to the city where he established himself as he became a minority owner of the Kansas City Royals.
