San Diego Padres fans react to fears about Yu Darvish's usage rate in World Baseball Classic: "He needs to be ready for the start of the season"

San Diego Padres manager Bob Melvin expressed some frustration with Yu Darvish's usage in the World Baseball Classic, where he is playing for Team Japan. Going into the tournament, many fans and teams were worried about their pitchers being overworked, but the opposite is happening. Darvish has pitched five innings in the tournament, less than the team had hoped for.Yu Darvish is arguably the best starting pitcher on the Padres. Many expect him to be the Opening Day starter. This is now in jeopardy if the team does not feel he is ready to pitch upwards of six consecutive innings. Both velocity and especially command are not where he needs it. An argument could be made that they are the team's three most important players.
