The debut of the new-look New York Mets is perhaps the most anticipated moment of fans and neutrals alike following Juan Soto's arrival. Known as the bridesmaids of the city, having lived under the dominance of the New York Yankees, the Metropolitans could now become a modern-day dynasty.

In an interview with the MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM, New York Mets pitcher Sean Manaea discussed the prospect of sharing the locker room with Soto once again.

"It's a crazy thing for him to sign and then for me to sign back with the Mets and to be able to play with him again," Manaea said.

Manaea recalled the time when he and Soto played for the San Diego Padres and how Soto was warmly welcomed by the team's faithful.

"I remember the time when we were in San Diego, and (Soto) was introduced. It was a huge deal, and when he was introduced in right field, it's a memory I will remember forever."

The lefty hurler further praised Soto and said that despite the enormous contract, no other player deserved it more than the young superstar.

"If there's anybody worthy of the ($765 million) contract, it's him."

Mets and Pete Alonso are in a deadlock regarding his contract

Per MLB insider Jon Heyman, the New York Mets and first baseman Pete Alonso are in a deadlock when it comes to the years of his contract.

Heyman fortified his claim by saying that the biggest factor could be Alonso's age. Entering his age 30 season, the two-time Home Run Derby winner is expected to fetch a high price tag.

However, the most glaring issue about Alonso's game is his defense. The "Polar Bear" is a slightly lower than average fielder, with a fielding percentage of .992. Alonso also has three seasons where he finished with a negative Rdrs or defensive runs saved above average.

Whichever team chooses to sign the four-time All-Star will have their work cut out, as they would gamble on the defensive side of the ball to utilize Alonso's power at the plate.
