Sean Manaea was the star of the show in Game 3 of the NLDS as the Mets won 7-2. Hitters Pete Alonso, Jesse Winker and Brandon Nimmo also shined for the Mets, while the Phillies' 'Big 3' of Bryce Harper, Trea Turner and Kyle Schwarber were limited to just one run in 9 at-bats with 2 hits.
After losing Game 2 in a closely contested affair, the Mets were in complete control in Game 3. Ace Sean Manaea gave up only three hits and one run over seven innings while striking out six. On the other side, Aaron Nola struggled for the Phillies. Nola allowed five hits and four runs but struck out eight in five innings.
As for the hitters, Pete Alonso opened the scoring with a solo homer in the bottom of the second inning against Nola. Jesse Winker did the same in the bottom of the fourth inning, also against Nola. Brandon Nimmo also shined as he scored two runs in two at-bats.
Most of the Mets' WAGs were at the game, and the victory elated them and their kids. Sean Manaea's fiancee, Talat Mirmalek and Pete Alonso's wife, Haley, expressed their happiness on their Instagram stories.
Mirmalek shared a picture of her with her fiancee Manaea with the caption, "&& back 2 baseball." She is a former Paramedic and has been engaged to the Mets ace since January.
Haley Alonso shared multiple angles of her husband's homer in her Instagram stories. The caption on one of her stories read, "POSTSEASON PETE!!!!!". Alonso married Haley in November of 2021. The pair met in 2015 during Alonso's Cape Cod collegiate summer league playing days.
With the victory, the Mets took a 2-1 lead in the series, and the Phillies now face elimination after being considered one of the favorites to win the World Series.
Sean Manaea and Talat Mirmalek pose with Leki Fotu
New York Jets' defensive tackle Leki Fotu was at Citi Field to watch Game 3 between the Mets and Phillies. Talat Mirmalek, with her fiancee Sean Manaea, posed with Fotu and shared it on her Instagram story.
Mirmalek captioned the story, 'FINALLY,' suggesting she had been waiting for an opportunity. Fotu being in attendance seemed like a good luck charm as the Mets won.
Game 4 of the series will have Ranger Suarez starting on the mound for the Phillies, while the Mets will have Jose Quintana. The pressure will be on Suarez as the Phillies are facing elimination.
