The Seattle Mariners have become one of the more exciting teams to watch. Last season, behind a stellar season from rookie Julio Rodriguez, they finally reached the postseason. They were facing a 20-year postseason void, the longest in professional North American sports at the time.
In their recent success, the infield developed a victory dance. It's said to have been in response to the celebration the outfielders do when the team wins a game. No matter where it came from, it's in the video game MLB The Show 23, and it looks awesome.
MLB The Show 23 is in early access release, with the game fully releasing on March 28th. It will be available on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
The game prides itself on realism, bringing everything from MLB to the game. Fans will also see things like Jazz Chisolm Jr.'s euro-step home run celebration, Sammy Sosa's hop-skip home run celebration, and many more.
"We absolutely love to see it," one fan tweeted.
"Beautiful," tweeted another fan.
Seattle Mariners fans couldn't be happier seeing their team's victory dance depicted in a video game. Small things like that really connect fans to games.
Aside from player and team celebrations, the game showcases the Negro League with a game mode called Storylines. It lets players experience the moments of eight Negro League players, narrated by the smooth-talking Bob Kendrick. It's a fantastic mode that allows players to learn about the great players of that era.
How often will fans see the victory dance from the Seattle Mariners this season?
While they didn't make needle-moving acquisitions in the offseason, they did upgrade at a few positions. One upgrade the team made was at second base. They acquired Kolten Wong from the Milwaukee Brewers. Last season, second base was the one position where they hit below the league average.
Another move the team made was acquiring Teoscar Hernandez from the Toronto Blue Jays and A.J. Pollock in free agency. Both players can provide a lot of power for the team.
If the team can get the same level of play from the returning starters, they should have no problem returning to the postseason. While they haven't generated the hype that some other teams have over the winter, don't sleep on the Mariners.
Seattle opens up their schedule on Thursday at home against the Cleveland Guardians.
