The New York Mets' Jesse Winker was ejected in the ninth inning of Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies after he took a high strike three. Winker, who came on as a pinch hitter, believed the pitch to be out of the strike zone, which wasn't the case as per the umpire.
Winker shook his head in disbelief and started to walk away. But the umpire suddenly took out his mask and ejected Winker from the game.
This surprised a lot of fans, as they believed that Winker never did anything to disrespect the umpire.
"Sensitive a** clown," one fan said.
"Bring in the damn robot zones this is ridiculous," another fan stated.
Some other fans shared the same sentiment towards the surprise ejection of Jesse Winker.
"Umpires are too soft nowadays," one fan remarked.
"Horrendous call. Somehow an even worse ejection," one fan mentioned.
"Umpire overreacted there, no reason to toss him," one fan opined.
One fan believes Winker said something to the umpire and sided with the Mets player.
"Idk what Winker said but whatever it was, he was right," one fan wrote.
The Phillies won the game 2-1 after a walk-off single by J.T. Realmuto in the bottom of the ninth.
Jesse Winker shared a viral moment with his opponent
Jesse Winker shared a great moment with Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. during last Tuesday's 6-2 loss. Winker picked up the ball hit by Guerrero Jr. and threw it to Eddy Alvarez at second base.
Guerrero Jr. collided with Alvarez and it seemed like he was safe. However, the Mets challenged the initial call and it was overturned. Guerrero Jr. nodded his head, and that's when Winker thought of lightening up the mood.
He approached the opponent and offered him an olive branch.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. looked at the offering, had a grin on his face, and shook Winker's hand. Even though it wasn't an electrifying moment in terms of baseball, it still garnered a lot of attention from the fans.
