SF Giants' Logan Webb discusses failed pursuit of Aaron Judge in free agency

San Francisco Giants pitcher Logan Webb has made his feelings clear about losing out on Aaron Judge. Judge's free agency saga was one of the most dramatic stories of the offseason. After hitting home run No. 62, it seemed like every step of Judge's journey was closely followed and analyzed.

At one point, it looked like San Francisco was the favorite to sign the 2022 American League MVP. Judge added fuel to the flames when he touched down at San Francisco International Airport in late November. Well-renowned New York Post reporter Jon Heyman even tweeted that Aaron Judge "appears headed to Giants."

Eventually, the New York Yankees announced that Judge was returning on a colossal nine-year, $360 million deal. Logan Webb was obviously upset after failing to secure one of baseball's all-time greats. The star pitcher was concise, candid and curt when asked how he felt about the situation:

Per Susan Slusser's recent Tweet, Logan Webb and shortstop Brandon Crawford were two of the Giants' players pursuing Judge in the offseason.

"Webb and Crawford were among those who met with Aaron Judge when the Giants were wooing him. Asked how that group felt when Judge returned to NY, Webb says, 'Butt-hurt.' He also talked to Correa by phone and considers Judge and Correa friends now." - Suan Slusser

Carlos Correa was another big name that seemed set to sign with San Francisco. An agreement was reached for a 13-year, $350 million contract. The deal failed to materialize due to issues with Correa's physical. The two-time All-Star eventually returned to the Minnesota Twins on a six-year, $200 million contract.

There were high hopes for the Giants this offseason. Aaron Judge, Carlos Correa and a long list of star players have been linked to the Bay Area club. Instead, it feels like another offseason of false promises.

Making matters worse for the Giants is the fact that their rivals the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres continue to strengthen.

The Padres have invested heavily over the previous 12 months and look like one of the favorites for the National League West. The Dodgers boast a long list of All-Stars on their roster. They have finished first place in the division in nine of the past 10 seasons.

The loss of All-Star Carlos Rodon to the New York Yankees adds salt to the wounds. The Giants will rely heavily on players like Logan Webb to make a playoff push in 2023.
