Shohei Ohtani's aura is currently unmatched. The generational player has quite possibly put up the best offensive season in baseball history as he inaugurated the 50-50 club. His manager, Dave Roberts, held high regard for his achievement and even elevated Ohtani's status by comparing him to sporting legends Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan.
On MLB Network's Manager on the Mic show, Roberts discussed how Ohtani has transformed into a sporting talent as big as Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan. He compared the Dodgers superstar hitting a home run to Woods sinking a putt or Jordan nailing a game-winner.
"When you go to a sports event to see your superstar, you hope to see something spectacular. It could be Tiger hitting an eagle from 170 yards out or Mike with a game-winning field goal. Baseball fans hope to see Shohei hit a homer. It just seems he always does it at the biggest moment."
In all fairness, Ohtani doesn't deliver at the biggest moments. He has converted small moments into big ones. This was the case when he went 6-for-6 against the Miami Marlins, hitting three home runs and stealing two bases. He followed that up on Friday with another homer and a stolen base against the Rockies.
Dodgers and Shohei Ohtani open as favorites in game 2 against Rockies
After a 6-4 win in their series opener against Colorado, with Ohtani going yard for the second consecutive game, the Dodgers look to continue their momentum and steal the series. They face Cal Quantrill today. The slick lefty holds an 8-10 record and 4.68 ERA heading into Saturday's game. Walker Buehler will oppose him on the mound for LA.
While the Dodgers look to get their 93rd win of the season, Shohei Ohtani hopes to add to his 52 homers and 52 steals. He is one long ball behind Aaron Judge for the MLB HR lead.
