MLB analyst Chris Rose and Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins talked about Shohei Ohtani and his 2024 season. Ohtani is the odds-on favorite to take home the NL MVP award.
Ohtani's season has been nothing short of incredible, as he hit 54 home runs and stole 59 bases on his way to becoming the "founding member" of the 50-50 club. He broke Ichiro Suzuki's record for most stolen bases by a Japanese player in a single season, which stood since 2001. Ohtani also won the NL West with the LA Dodgers.
On Monday's episode of "The Chris Rose Rotation," Hoskins talked about how Shohei Ohtani is enjoying every moment he spends on the field.
"[42:12] A unicorn, that's what people say about him (Shohei Ohtani)," Hoskins said. "There's not anybody out there like him. I think what's cool to see from afar is, he's just having fun out there." Hoskins said [42:12]
"[42:45] He's obviously this immensely talented, athletic, baseball player that's doing crazy, crazy things. He's coming up in these big moments, showing all this emotion, getting the boys hyped up, laughing when he gets on the bases."
Hoskins then talked about a "lesson" that any aspiring baseball player can learn from Ohtani's attitude on the diamond.
"[43:17] I think there's really cool lessons there. Although immensely talented, if you don't try to have fun, it might beat you down. But my gosh, is this guy good at what he does, and seeemingly only getting better."
Shohei Ohtani enters first postseason of career full of confidence
Shohei Ohtani's 2024 campaign is one of the best individual seasons in baseball history. Combining home runs and stolen bases with ruthless efficiency, hitting in clutch moments and winning a division championship, he has seemingly done it all this year.
The Dodgers' DH finished the regular season top of the NL for home runs, RBIs and OPS, second to Elly De La Cruz for stolen bases and Luis Arraez for batting average.
Though the incredible batting triple crown barely evaded his grasp, Ohtani no doubt heads into his first-ever postseason with a lot of momentum with him. In his last 10 games, he has been typically destructive at the plate, batting .628 with 27 hits, six home runs and 20 RBIs.
With the Dodgers securing the best record in the major leagues and getting home-field advantage for every playoff series they play, a lot of expectations are on Ohtani's shoulders to continue to swing a hot bat all the way to the championship series.
