Shohei Ohtani is yet to miss out on a minute of action in the World Series even with a shoulder injury. The Dodgers superstar led off the team in Game 3 in New York as Los Angeles took a 3-0 lead with a 4-2 win. Before the game, Ohtani had surprised his teammates with a special message.
It's known that Ohtani always takes his translator's aid while communicating in English. His primary mode of interaction is Japanese, but he knows a little bit of English. As per Japanese publication Full Count, the 30-year-old affirmed his participation to his teammates in a group chat featuring only the players.
"I'm fine. I intend to play in the game," he wrote.
Shohei Ohtani arrived a day late in the Bronx because he had to undergo thorough examination of his left shoulder. The Dodgers DH seemed to have injured it while trying to steal a base in Game 2 on Saturday. He tried to slide in, but his trailing left arm jammed against the floor, and the generational player was in visible pain as he lied down near the second base.
Later reports suggested that he had partially dislocated his shoulder. However, on the next day, manager Dave Roberts confirmed that Ohtani felt better about his arm and was ready to play.
Shohei Ohtani and Dodgers move within one game of the World Series
Shohei Ohtani earned a lead off walk in the first inning on Saturday and scored when Freddie Freeman launched his third consecutive homer in as many games. He failed to get on base in his next three at-bats, but, in the ninth, he moved to first base after being hit by pitch from New York closer Luke Weaver.
Despite blanking, his Dodgers teammates closed out the deal. Freeman's two-run homer was later backed up by RBI singles from Mookie Betts and Enrique Hernandez. They ably supported some strong pitching from starter Walker Buehler and another impressive performance from the Dodgers bullpen.
With the win, they move to within one game of winning the title and could wrap things up on Tuesday in the Bronx in front of a packed Yankee Stadium crowd.
