The Houston Astros are reportedly in negotiations to bring back Alex Bregman, while they also have to consider the upcoming free agency of Kyle Tucker this offseason.
Although the Astros would like to re-sign Bregman, they are seemingly more focused on offering an extension to Tucker, especially after calling him 'True Royalty' on Instagram. But fans called the Astros out to secure an extension for Alex Bregman while asking them to trade Kyle Tucker instead.
Alex Bregman was drafted as the No. 2 overall pick by the Houston Astros in the 2015 MLB Draft and made his debut with them the next year. The third baseman has spent his entire nine-year major league career with the Astros, winning two World Series titles, making him the face of the franchise as well as a massive favorite among home fans.
Meanwhile, the Houston Astros selected Kyle Tucker out of high school as the fifth overall pick of the 2015 MLB Draft, as they had received an extra first-round pick after failing to sign the No. 1 pick the previous year.
The outfielder has earned three All-Star Game selections since making his major league debut in 2018 and picked up a World Series ring with them.
"Sign Bregman," one fan posted.
"When is the Bregman post?," asked one fan.
"Sign Breggy," another fan demanded.
Meanwhile, some fans took this opportunity to moan about Kyle Tucker instead.
"Are we extending him?," asked one fan.
"Empty stats, automatic out in postseason," another fan said.
"Missing since October," commented another one.
The Astros might not be able to afford contract extensions for both Bregman and Tucker, while fans seem to be split on which of the two should remain with the team.
What's the latest on negotiations between Astros and Alex Bregman?
In 2019, Alex Bregman signed a five-year contract extension with the Houston Astros, with the deal ending this season.
Astros general manager Dana Brown expressed his desire to retain the third baseman at the start of the season. But nothing materialized during the campaign, so the 30-year-old has become a free agent for the first time.
As per MLB insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Astros have tabled a "six-year deal worth about $156 million" to the player, but Alex Bregman and his agent Scott Boras are expecting a "$200 million contract."
