Trevor Bauer’s MLB return seems like a long shot. He was accused of domestic violence and sexual assault by a woman in 2021, last pitching in June 2021.

As his former team the Los Angeles Dodgers got swept by the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday for their fifth loss in a row, Bauer gave a witty solution to their struggles.

“Sign Trevor Bauer,” he replied on X.

The 2020 Cy Young winner was sidelined for two MLB seasons while serving a 194-game suspension and went to Japan to play for the Yokohama DeNA BayStars of NPB. Bauer and his accuser settled their case without money involvement. Since then, the allegation-free pitcher has been trying to return to the league.

According to an ESPN report, the Dodgers still owe Bauer $22,537,635. If any team signed Bauer, they’d get the former MLB All-Star for the league’s minimum wage, which is $720,000; the Dodgers would have to pay him the rest.

He opted out of NPB and became a free agent in the hope of getting an MLB offer. However, no major league teams were interested in signing Bauer. He then went to Mexico to play for Diablos Rojos del Mexico this year, while actively staying on social media.

League executive restrained from signing Trevor Bauer

Journalist Frank Cusumano asked John Mozeliak, the St. Louis Cardinals Cardinals president of baseball operations, in an interview about the chances of his club pursuing former major leaguer Trevor Bauer.

"I just don't know if that would be good for this community, good for our team," Mozeliak said. "And I don't want to make it look like I'm so desperate to have to win that I'd do something that would fly in the face of our moral compass."

Mozeliak's answer shows that Bauer’s MLB return will not be an easy road. However, the 33-year-old is full of hope that someday he’ll continue his major league resume that’s been on hold since 2021.
