The Chicago Cubs finished the regular season with an 83-79 record for the second straight year. They missed the postseason for the fourth consecutive season, which has been disappointing for the fanbase.

However, it is now the offseason and some exciting free agents could help the Cubbies move forward. But, if you were hoping the front office would take a look at some of the top options like Juan Soto or Corbin Burnes, I have some bad news for you.

Soto and Burnes are the two biggest stars on the open market this winter. Both are looking for a monster contract, and that is something the Chicago front office has no plans on dishing out.

This report does not sit well with the fans on the Northside. They want to see their favorite team go out and get the best players available and put the best team out on the field.

"Smallest big market team I've ever seen" one fan posted.
"You will not catch me paying for a single thing at cubs games and I won’t buy a single ticket. If I’m at the game, the tickets were free. I’m so annoyed this d**n team is so cheap in the 3rd biggest market in the whole entire nation" said another.
"Can we please get new leadership at the top including a new owner" said another.

Fans are upset that the Cubs often act like a small market club when they are not. According to Forbes, they rank fourth in MLB teams' valuation, which is ahead of teams like the New York Mets, Atlanta Braves, and Houston Astros.

"It is imperative that we relentlessly shame them for this. Make it as big a deal as Fisher Major Leaguing the A's" said another.
"When will they cancel the fan convention so they don’t hear the boos?" said another.
"And I'm ruling out our playoff hopes" said another.

Who might the Cubs sign this winter?

Pitching will likely be at the forefront for the Cubs this offseason. While they have some exciting names like Shota Imanaga and Jameson Taillon, they need another arm or two to complement them.

Fortunately, there are some quality starting pitchers on the open market. Walker Buehler could be an arm the club goes after, or somebody like Nathan Eovaldi would not be surprising either.
